Jeddah Knowledge International School was proud to host it’s Prestigious MYP Spelling Bee Competition
Jeddah Knowledge International School proudly hosted its annual Middle Years Programme (MYP) Spelling Bee Contest, an intellectually stimulating event that celebrated linguistic excellence and academic achievement among our students. Organized and overseen by the English Department, the contest showcased the dedication, preparation, and competitive spirit of our young students.
As the English Coordinator, I had the privilege of hosting this esteemed event, which unfolded in several stages designed to provide all students with the opportunity to demonstrate their spelling proficiency.
The preliminary rounds were held during English lessons across all MYP grade levels. These initial stages served as an inclusive platform, encouraging widespread participation and allowing students to engage with the rich complexity of the English language in a structured and supportive environment.
Following the preliminaries, the finalists emerged and progressed to the next stage of the competition. The MYP finals were held during the school assembly on Tuesday, 22nd April 2025, where the atmosphere was both electric and respectful, reflecting the importance of the occasion. Students impressed judges and spectators alike with their confidence, composure, and command of advanced vocabulary.
Our finalists for each grade level was as follows-
Grade 6 |
Aser Abdelrahman – 6.4 |
Grade 7 |
Abdallah Jan – 7.2 |
Grade 8 |
Ghassan Bokhari – 8.4 |
Grade 9 |

Grade 10 |

The culmination of the contest was the highly anticipated Grand Finals, held on Sunday, 4th May 2025, where the top finalists competed for the coveted title of MYP Spelling Bee Champion. The event was marked by intense competition and a deep sense of camaraderie among participants. Ultimately, the contest succeeded not only in identifying our top speller, Abdulkarim Abujubara – 9.2, but also in fostering a deeper appreciation for language and academic perseverance.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all participants, and particularly to our Grand Finalists and the overall winner, whose achievement stands as a testament to their hard work and passion for learning.
Special thanks are due to the English Department, supporting faculty, and students for their enthusiasm and commitment to making this event a resounding success. As IB students preparing to become global citizens, learning languages like French and Spanish is essential. Both are widely spoken across multiple continents, making them valuable tools for communication in diverse cultural, academic, and professional settings. Mastering either language enhances your ability to connect with people from different backgrounds, which is a key element of the IB learner profile.
French and Spanish also open doors to a range of international opportunities. From studying abroad in Europe or Latin America to working with global organizations like the United Nations, bilingualism significantly broadens your options. Additionally, language learning sharpens critical thinking and strengthens cognitive skills—benefits that support academic success across all IB subjects.
Beyond practical advantages, studying French and Spanish deepens cultural appreciation. Whether through literature, history, or current events, language is a gateway to understanding the world. As IB students committed to intercultural understanding and lifelong learning, embracing language acquisition is not just useful—it’s essential.

For the seventh time, I found myself walking toward the podium to oversee the Boys’ Graduation Ceremony for 2025. The air was thick with anticipation and a heady mix of emotions—joy, happiness, relief, and hope. The Grade 12 Graduation Ceremony is always an honor and a privilege to attend, rightly considered the culmination of 12 years of hard work, perseverance, and the occasional smattering of fun.
This particular cohort holds a special place in my heart, as I had the opportunity to teach many of them in the lower grades. Watching them grow into well-rounded young men—equipped with the skills, values, and confidence to tackle the next chapter, whether in university or the world of work—has been one of the great joys of my career. They will be remembered fondly in the years to come.
The awardees, speakers, and special mentions during the evening reflected the exceptional quality of this group. Each student aspired to be the best version of themselves, and their collective spirit was palpable. The audience—parents, families, and friends—played their part too, cheering with pride, shedding a few tears, and expressing the deep emotions that only loved ones can feel when witnessing a child reach such a milestone.
Our Valedictorian, Osama Radi, exemplifies everything good about JKS. A true role model, his achievements stand tall, yet he is just one of many successes within this remarkable class. Each student who walked across the stage has reason to be proud.
The evening’s images, videos, songs, and the diploma ceremony stirred memories of years gone by. Yet now, the graduates look ahead, ready to forge their own paths in corners of the world both near and far. No matter where life takes them, building 5 will remain a touchstone—a reminder of where it all began.
They will always have a place here. We look forward to welcoming them back, especially at our annual Alumni events, because JKS is more than just a school—it is a second home.

As you prepare to begin the IB Diploma Programme (IB DP), it’s important to approach this academic journey with careful planning. The IB is known for its rigor, depth, and focus on developing well-rounded, globally-minded learners. One of the important steps in preparing for the IB diploma program is choosing your courses correctly. Make sure to research university programmes that you may be interested in pursuing after graduation, as many have specific subject requirements especially for Higher Level (HL) courses. Whether you’re aiming for medicine, engineering, the arts, or business, your IB subject choices should align with the university requirements.
In addition to your six chosen subjects, the IB Core consisting of Theory of Knowledge (TOK), the Extended Essay (EE), and Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) is a compulsory requirement of the diploma. These components are designed to help you develop critical thinking, research skills, and a sense of personal and social responsibility. Staying organized will be key throughout your two-year journey. With internal and external assessments, CAS reflections, and university preparation all happening simultaneously, managing your time effectively will help you avoid unnecessary stress.
Lastly, don’t hesitate to reach out to the DP coordinator, teachers, coordinators, or classmates for support.
We believe in your potential and look forward to supporting you in your upcoming journey in the DP.
