Health and Safety

Licenses and Inspections

The health and safety of each child is crucial at Jeddah Knowledge International School (JKS). JKS has been regulated, licensed, and inspected by the Fire Department and adheres to all safety and health standards as set forth by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia relating to the Fire Department and Health Department. The Fire Department ensures compliance with all regulations and conducts regular inspections.

Students should never be left unattended or unsupervised. Teachers are responsible for monitoring the amount of time a student spends outside the classroom when using the toilet for personal needs. In the event of an accident or illness, the student must be accompanied by a teacher or assistant to the office, and should not be alone. If there is an emergency, the teacher must report the incident immediately and request assistance from the office.

Accidents / Incidents

All faculty members have Accident/Incident Reports that they must complete, providing all relevant details including date, location, witnesses, and a brief description of the occurrence. The original form is given to the parents, and a copy is filed in the student’s record. Employees must inform the office immediately of any accidents or incidents and complete this form. All injured students must be taken to the office without delay. A parent will be contacted by phone to be informed of the accident/incident and given instructions for picking up the child or any other necessary actions.

If a child becomes ill, they should be taken to the office where it will be determined if they need to be isolated in the School Clinic until their parents arrive to pick them up. Some staff members have received CPR and First Aid Training for both children and adults.

All medications are kept in a cabinet in the School Clinic and are not accessible to students. Authorized personnel record the name of the medicine, the time it is administered, the dosage given, and sign a Medication Form.

First Aid

The School Clinic is located in the main building. If a child becomes ill, they are isolated in this room until their parents pick them up.

Building Safety

Jeddah Knowledge International School’s (JKS) buildings are divided into three sections: (1) Primary School Building, (2) Middle School Building, and (3) Upper School Building. During the first week of school, students are given specific instructions about areas that are off-limits to them. Primary, Middle, and Upper School students have separate entrances, playground areas, and after-school areas. Pre-primary students do not share any areas with other students.

Smoking is strictly prohibited on JKS premises.

Parents receive a tour of the school campus, including all playground equipment, before registering their child. Adults supervise children at all times. Playground equipment is maintained daily and meets safety standards. Equipment is regularly inspected and repaired or replaced as needed by “Little Tikes” or other dealers. All areas are kept clean and free of potential hazards.

For the safety of all students, parents and visitors are not allowed to enter the school halls or classrooms without prior special permission from the school office. All visitors must wear a “Visitor’s Pass” at all times. Parents who need to speak to teachers are instructed to send a note or call the school to make an appointment. Parents are not allowed to stop teachers in the hallway to discuss their child. All faculty and staff members are instructed to immediately report any unauthorized persons seen walking inside the school campus.

An electronic surveillance camera system with a continuous monitoring device is installed. This system is monitored at all times by administrative personnel. Two Security Guards patrol the campus. An electronic alarm system is also installed throughout the building with the required pull stations. The alarm system is connected to the electric smoke detectors. Emergency lights and fire extinguishers are located in all required areas, according to Fire Department Code.

Staff Training

Some JKS employees are trained in security measures. Health and Safety meetings are held during Faculty meetings. Teachers and Assistant Teachers are repeatedly reminded to maintain constant supervision and prioritize the safety and well-being of ALL students, whether inside or outside the classroom. They are to immediately report any hazards and behavioral problems to the office. Students are instructed to walk, not run, throughout the school campus.

Fire Drills

Fire Drill training and evaluation activities are conducted each term. Exit plans are posted on all classroom doors. All teachers are responsible for practicing the designated exit route. A trial drill is conducted at the beginning of each term.

  • When the fire alarm sounds, all students must immediately stand and line up silently, leaving behind all personal belongings such as bags, books, and notebooks.
  • Students must walk, not run, in an organized manner to the designated waiting area.
  • Students, together with the teacher, must wait quietly until the Principal or Assistant Principal personally indicates that it is safe to return to classes. Students must then walk silently and in line to their respective classes.

Student Pick-Up

Students may only be picked up by individuals who possess their ID, unless written permission is received from the parents or legal guardian. (If a staff member can clearly identify the voice of the parent, the designated person can pick up the student by providing proper identification).

School Clinic And Isolation Room

To ensure the health, safety, and well-being of all JKS students, the school has implemented well-defined policies and procedures to handle student illnesses, accidents, or injuries. These protocols are diligently followed by our school nurses.

In the event that a student falls too ill to engage in school lessons or activities, parents are promptly notified to arrange for their child’s pickup from school. We kindly request that you do not send your child to school if they are unwell, as this could prolong their recovery process and potentially expose other students to the same illness.
