Mariah Sulaimani
Nursery Team Leader & Pre-Primary English Teacher
This unit has provided our Nursery learners with an exciting journey of self-discovery, identity, and personal expression. Through a variety of engaging experiences, children have developed their understanding of who they are while building spatial awareness, self-image, and fine motor skills.
A key focus of our learning has been exploring facial features and personal characteristics. Through hands-on, multi-sensory activities, children investigated how eyes, noses, ears, mouths, and hair come together to create unique faces. Rather than using traditional paper crafts, learners creatively matched facial feature cutouts onto balloons to construct 3D self-portraits and experimented with styling different hair textures and shapes using shaving cream.
These interactive experiences have supported language development, strengthened social-emotional skills, and expanded children’s vocabulary as they learned to describe themselves and others. Most importantly, the unit has encouraged our young learners to celebrate their individuality while appreciating the unique qualities that make each of their peers special.

Who We Are: My Family, Friends, and Me
By: Ms. Halima Altaie (Pre K Homeroom Teacher)
This quarter, our Pre-K students embarked on a meaningful journey of discovery through the International Baccalaureate (IB) Unit of Inquiry, “Who We Are: My Family, Friends, and Me.” Through engaging discussions, hands-on activities, and meaningful learning experiences, children explored their identities and the important relationships that shape their lives.
We began by focusing on ourselves. Students created self-portraits and explored their positive qualities, learning to recognize what makes each of them unique and special. These experiences helped develop self-awareness, confidence, and an appreciation for individual differences.
We then expanded our inquiry to families. Children eagerly shared their thoughts and experiences about their families while exploring the many ways families can be structured. They expressed their understanding through creative projects, including constructing houses that represented the number of people in their own families.
Finally, we turned our attention to friendships. Students enthusiastically talked about their friends and shared the activities they enjoy doing together. These discussions encouraged them to understand the importance of friendship, cooperation, and a sense of belonging within our classroom community.
Throughout the unit, we also laid the foundations for a positive classroom culture by learning about the values of respect, kindness, responsibility, helpfulness, and care for others. These important attributes will continue to guide our learning and interactions throughout the year.
It has been a joyful and meaningful start to the school year, celebrating who we are, the people who care for us, and the friendships that make our classroom a wonderful place to learn, grow, and belong.
Ms. Maria Alahmadi | Kindergarten Teacher
In Kindergarten, our first Unit of Inquiry, Healthy Me, Happy Me, invites students to explore how lifestyle choices affect our bodies’ health and safety. Under the theme of Who We Are, we are learning about food, exercise and personal behavior, including the everyday habits that help us care for ourselves.
We brought this inquiry into our language lesson through a playful toothbrushing and reading game. Students used oversized toothbrushes and shaving foam as pretend toothpaste on large tooth cards. Their task was to brush each tooth and then read the word that appeared. Each newly revealed word gave them another opportunity to practice their early reading skills.
This practical activity connected oral hygiene with literacy in a way students could see and experience. Brushing the model teeth provided opportunities to practice hand control and coordination, while uncovering and reading the words gave a familiar health routine a language-learning purpose.
The game also reflected our unit’s focus on connection and responsibility: caring for our teeth is one of the daily choices we make to look after our bodies. By bringing inquiry and language together through purposeful play, we helped make healthy habits and reading part of the same memorable classroom experience.

Our Outstanding Community
Our Grade 1 learners have been on an exciting journey of exploration, discovery, and collaboration as we investigated what makes a community and how people work together!

(Students in 1.1 explore the diffferent roles in an airport)
We began by exploring the communities we belong to, including our classroom, school, neighborhoods, and the wider community. Students investigated the important roles of community helpers, such as doctors, firefighters, police officers, and teachers, developing an appreciation for how their contributions keep our communities safe, healthy, and connected.

(Students in 1C show appreciation for cultural identity during Saudi National Day Celebrations)
We proudly celebrated Saudi National Day, exploring the Kingdom’s rich heritage, traditions, and culture. This special occasion encouraged students to reflect on national identity, unity, and the importance of belonging to a community.

(Students in 1.3 discovering the excitement of electricty through building circuits)

Every Minute Matters: Small Steps, Big Progress
By Ms. Alexsandra, Grade 3 Teacher
How can we use our time wisely and take responsibility for our learning? During our unit of inquiry, How We Organize Ourselves, students explored how self-management skills and tools help us achieve personal and collective goals.
Organisation, time management, goal setting, perseverance and reflection were at the heart of this inquiry. Through classroom discussions and collaborative activities, learners explored how planning, staying focused and organising their materials could help them complete tasks successfully.
Students considered how their everyday choices affect both their own progress and the people around them. Working together encouraged them to listen to others, share responsibilities and contribute towards a common goal. Our classroom message, “Small steps make big progress,” reinforced the value of consistent effort and perseverance when facing challenges.
Being principled was an important part of the learning journey. Students explored what it means to act responsibly, make fair choices, and follow through on commitments. Reflection encouraged them to recognise their strengths, identify challenges and set goals for improvement.
This inquiry highlighted how self-management extends beyond the classroom. Whether preparing for lessons, completing responsibilities at home, or working with others, learners discovered that thoughtful planning and responsible choices help make every minute count.
Have you ever wondered how your brain tells your body to move, think, or react? What happens inside our bodies when we breathe, run, or learn something new? These fascinating questions sparked curiosity among our Grade 4 girls as they explored their first Unit of Inquiry, Who We Are, focusing on human body systems.
Throughout the unit, students investigated the remarkable nervous system and discovered how the brain communicates with different parts of the body. They also explored how the digestive, circulatory, and respiratory systems work together to keep us alive and healthy.
One of the most memorable experiences was a hands-on laboratory investigation in which students examined a sheep’s brain, observing its structure and making connections to their classroom learning. Another engaging activity involved creating models of neurons, helping learners visualise how messages travel through the nervous system.
Through scientific investigations, collaborative discussions, and inquiry-based activities, students strengthened their research and thinking skills while developing the IB Learner Profile attributes of being Inquirers and Knowledgeable.
Most importantly, this unit encouraged learners to appreciate the incredible complexity of the human body and recognise how their everyday choices contribute to their health and well-being. Their journey of discovery demonstrated that meaningful learning begins with curiosity and grows through exploration.
Body Detectives on a Mission!
Ms. Rifhath Hussain
Grade 4 PYP Homeroom Teacher
Our Grade 4 boys and girls embarked on an exciting journey into the Who We Are unit, exploring how the human body’s systems work together to keep us alive and healthy. Visual provocations sparked curiosity, encouraging students to ask questions and help shape our lines of inquiry around Form, Function and Connection.
A highlight of the unit was dissecting a sheep’s brain in the science lab. This hands-on experience allowed students to observe a real brain closely, explore its different parts and connect their classroom learning to its structure and functions.
Salman Almutairi exclaimed, “I can’t believe our brain is so similar to a sheep’s brain!” Abdulaziz Al Najafi asked, “It felt so slimy! How does it stay in place inside our head?” This sparked a discussion about how the skull, protective layers and fluid support and cushion the brain.
Through classroom discussions and activities, students also explored the nervous, digestive, respiratory and circulatory systems. They learned how these systems are connected and how our choices and environment affect our health.
As باحثون و واسعو المعرفة learners, students demonstrated their understanding through colour-coded, labelled diagrams explaining body systems. From asking initial questions to investigating a real brain, this unit encouraged curiosity and deepened their appreciation of the amazing human body.
Throughout our Fit for Life unit, Grade 5 students embarked on an exciting journey of discovery, exploring the major body systems, their functions, and how they work together to keep us healthy.
With a strong integration of Science, students developed their understanding of how lifestyle choices, daily habits, and environmental factors influence the way our bodies function. Through engaging, hands-on learning experiences, they explored the importance of balanced nutrition, regular exercise, sufficient sleep, and overall well-being.
Students demonstrated the IB Learner Profile attribute of being Balanced, recognizing the importance of maintaining a healthy body and mind. They also strengthened their thinking and reflection skills, critically examining how their personal choices impact their health.
A key highlight of the unit was students actively monitoring and reflecting on their daily routines, eating habits, and physical activities. By identifying areas for improvement and setting personal goals, they became more aware of their responsibility for making informed, healthy choices.
The unit empowered students to recognize that small, positive lifestyle changes can make a lasting difference to their health and well-being!

Here is a quick guide to the most common standardized entrance exams across the
United States, United Kingdom، و
Saudi Arabia.
The United States: Testing Your Aptitude
American university admissions look heavily at your overall profile, but standardized test scores remain a powerful tool to strengthen an application.
The United Kingdom: Subject Mastery, Specifics & Language
Unlike the US system, the UK university admissions process focuses heavily on specific subject knowledge and language proficiency rather than general aptitude.
Saudi Arabia: “How You Think” vs. “What You Know”
For students looking to apply to universities within the Kingdom, the Education and Training Evaluation Commission (ETEC) runs two mandatory exams via the Qiyas Testing Center. A handy rule of thumb to remember them is: Qudurat is how you think; Tahsili is what you know.
|
Exam Name |
What It Measures |
Exam Details & Content |
|
Qudurat (General Aptitude Test / GAT) |
General cognitive abilities, logical reasoning, and analytical skills. |
Divided into Verbal و Quantitative sections. Scores rank relative performance (0–100). An English version is available for international curriculum students. |
|
Tahsili (Scholastic Achievement Admission Test / SAAT) |
Mastery of the academic high school curriculum. |
Covers core subjects: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics. Material is drawn directly from grades 10, 11, and 12. |
💡 Quick Tip for Local Admissions: Saudi public universities combine your high school GPA, Qudurat score, and Tahsili score into a weighted average called the Mawzoonah to determine acceptance into STEM majors.
As the first quarter of the school year draws to a close, it’s a great chance to consider the behaviors, mindsets, and accomplishments that have influenced our students’ beginning this year.
Excitement, new chances, and new objectives accompany the start of a new school year. As they adjusted to new routines, academic demands, and leadership opportunities throughout the first quarter, students showed resiliency, accountability, and a dedication to personal development.
This quarter, many students have actively contributed to our school community through various initiatives, leadership roles, community service activities, and acts of kindness. These experiences help students strengthen important life skills, including communication, collaboration, empathy, and self-management.
As we move forward into the next quarter, we encourage all students to continue setting meaningful goals, maintaining a positive mindset, and seeking support when needed. Every challenge is an opportunity to learn, and every achievement, no matter how small, is a step toward becoming confident, responsible, and compassionate young women.
We are proud of the positive start our students have made and look forward to celebrating their continued growth throughout the year.

The Extended Essay (EE) is more than just an academic requirement; it is an exciting opportunity for students to explore their passions, challenge their thinking, and develop valuable skills that extend far beyond the classroom. Through independent research, students learn to think critically, investigate meaningful questions, manage their time effectively, and express their ideas with confidence. One of the most important steps in this journey is choosing a topic that genuinely sparks curiosity and reflects personal interests. When students select a subject they are passionate about, research becomes more than an assignment; it becomes a rewarding journey of discovery. A topic that inspires them will encourage deeper exploration, greater motivation, creativity, and perseverance when challenges arise. The skills gained throughout this experience will not only prepare students for university-level research but also equip them with the independence, resilience, and problem-solving abilities needed for future success.
As students begin their Extended Essay journey, I encourage each of them to follow their curiosity, explore what excites them, and embrace the opportunity to turn their interests into meaningful research. Remember, the best research begins with a question you are genuinely eager to answer. Choose a topic you love, enjoy the journey of discovery, and take pride in what you achieve!
Mrs. Mirna Yamak
Extended Essay (EE) Coordinator
What does it mean to be a global citizen?
A global citizen understands that we are connected to people and places around the world. Global citizenship means asking thoughtful questions, considering different viewpoints, respecting cultures and recognising that our choices can affect others and the planet.
From understanding to action
Global citizenship is not only about understanding problems. It is also about considering realistic ways to help. Students can turn learning into action by reducing waste, saving water and energy, supporting inclusion, and taking part in school or community initiatives. Small, thoughtful actions can contribute to a more caring and sustainable world.
Our shared responsibility
By exploring global issues and developing intercultural understanding, students become more thoughtful learners and more responsible members of their communities. They begin to see that being a global citizen does not require having all the answers. It begins with curiosity, respect, empathy, and the willingness to learn and to take positive action together.
This image reminds us of the importance of understanding global issues and working together to create a more peaceful, inclusive and sustainable world.
Ms. Caitlin – Humanities
In the battle against technology in general and AI in particular, who will survive and more importantly, who will thrive? For the moment, the novelty of AI is winning many fans. And why not? It takes the effort out of hard work, its creativity seems endless and speed phenomenal.
Why then are there endless warnings about the use of AI? Humans are naturally built with the capacity to reason and to survive but does this come instinctively? On a molecular level perhaps, but it is the trained life-long learner who will triumph!
It thus becomes imperative that schools and educators shift focus from content learning to “how” to learn. Luckily for students at JKS, the IB curriculum is designed to promote life-long learning. From content which is relevant to daily life to skills that develop critical thinkers and a love for learning, our students benefit from interactive lessons driven by a single principle: to learn is to grow, to be a life-long learner is to thrive.
Wishing all JKS students a successful year filled with personal growth and determination to succeed.

Taking Care of Yourself: Why Is Sleep So Important for Your Brain?
Have you ever stayed up late studying, only to feel like you cannot remember anything the next morning? Sleep may be the missing ingredient!
While we sleep, our brain is still very active. It organizes information, strengthens memories, and prepares us for the next day. Getting enough sleep can improve concentration, learning, mood, and even problem-solving skills.
For teenagers, sleep is especially important because the brain and body are still developing. Too little sleep can leave students feeling tired, irritated, and unable to focus properly in class. Surprisingly, using phones and tablets late at night may also make falling asleep more difficult.
So, before your next big test, remember that studying is important, but so is sleep! A well-rested brain is often better prepared to learn, think, and remember.
Science Tip: Make sleep part of your study plan!
Ms. Prabashinee – Science
A reflection on technology, learning, and human intelligence
Illustration inspired by a quotation commonly attributed to Einstein; its attribution is unverified.
Imagine a classroom where students can solve equations using artificial intelligence, write essays in seconds, and find answers with a single click. Technology has made information accessible. But are we becoming more knowledgeable, or simply more dependent on our devices?
We use smartphones to remember numbers, GPS to find our way, and AI to explain lessons. These tools save time. Yet if we allow them to do all our thinking, we may weaken our ability to question, reason, and solve problems independently.
Consider a student who asks AI to solve a physics problem without attempting it first. The answer may be correct, but has learning taken place? In physics, the reasoning matters as much as the result. Trying, making mistakes, and asking why are how scientific thinking grows.
The same question reaches beyond school. A family may sit in one room while each person looks at a different screen. We can message someone across the planet instantly, yet sometimes forget to speak to the person beside us. Access to information is not the same as understanding; digital connection is not always human connection.
Technology is not the enemy. It has transformed medicine, communication, transportation, and education. The challenge is to use it as a tool rather than a substitute for curiosity, creativity, and judgment.
Perhaps the mark of an intelligent generation is not that it builds machines capable of answering every question, but that it continues to ask thoughtful questions of its own. Technology should support human intelligence, not replace it.
Ms. Robina – Physics Department
At Jeddah Knowledge School, interdisciplinary learning is a key part of the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP). It encourages students to connect knowledge across subjects, think critically, collaborate, and apply their learning to real-world challenges.
Throughout the 2026–2027 academic year, our students will explore meaningful projects that bring different disciplines together. Grade 6 students will combine Mathematics and Digital Design to create educational travel budgets, while Grade 7 students will explore the relationship between mathematical proportions and artistic design. Grade 8 students will investigate sustainable energy solutions through Science and English, and Grade 9 students will use Physics and Mathematics to analyse human movement and athletic performance. Grade 10 students will combine Chemistry and Arabic to raise awareness about plastic pollution and promote sustainable solutions.
These experiences go beyond completing projects. They help students develop essential skills in research, communication, problem-solving, creativity, and collaboration while understanding how classroom knowledge can address real-life situations.
At JKS, we believe that learning becomes more powerful when students see the connections between what they learn and the world around them.
When learning moves beyond the classroom, knowledge becomes action, ideas become solutions, and students become active participants in shaping their future.
Ms. Raghad – MYPC

Culinary Arts brings learning to life through food. In the kitchen, students explore their creativity, develop practical skills, and discover the science behind cooking.
During our lessons, students learn various cooking and baking techniques, food safety, nutrition, and food presentation. They also gain hands-on experience in preparing different dishes, working with ingredients, and following recipes.
One of the most rewarding parts of teaching Culinary Arts is watching students gain confidence as they put their skills into practice. Whether they are trying a new recipe, working in teams, or learning to correct a mistake, each experience helps them become more independent and resourceful.
Food also provides a wonderful way to explore different cultures and traditions. By preparing dishes from around the world, students learn to appreciate new flavours, ingredients, and cooking methods.
Beyond the kitchen, these lessons teach valuable life skills, including time management, teamwork, organization, and responsibility. Students also learn the importance of maintaining hygiene and making informed food choices.
As a Culinary Arts teacher, I hope to inspire students to enjoy the process of cooking and take pride in what they create. Whether they pursue a career in the culinary field or use these skills in their daily lives, the knowledge they gain will stay with them long after the lesson ends.
Because every dish is an opportunity to learn something new!
Ms. Asia Sait – Culinary Arts Teacher
International School Library Month (ISLM) is celebrated in October every year and 2026 was no exception, despite being one of the most unique years in the 21st century. The library is also host to many multimedia facilities such as educational films, internet and computer usage and facilities for students to present their class projects.
The doors of knowledge always remain open. Libraries still remain and will always play a vital role in offering services for research and education. Let us always continue keeping informed and make sure we’re lifelong learners. As a famous quote claims,” seek knowledge from the cradle to the grave”.

As we embark on another dynamic term filled with academic rigour and global engagement, the JKS Model United Nations (JKSMUN) club continues to be a cornerstone of leadership, diplomacy, and critical thinking at our school. MUN is far more than an extracurricular activity; it is a transformative platform where our students step into the shoes of global leaders, learning the delicate art of negotiation, consensus-building, and empathetic problem-solving.
Celebrating Leadership: The Inauguration of the 2026/2027 Executive Board
A major highlight of this term has been the official inauguration of our new Executive Board for the 2026/2027 academic year. In a proud and memorable moment during our recent school assembly, Mr. Zafer called each newly elected officer onto the stage to personally present them with their official Executive Board badges. This ceremony marked not only the beginning of their tenure but also a solemn commitment to steering our JKSMUN Club to unprecedented heights.
Looking Forward: Internal Conference and International Horizons
The momentum within the club is palpable as our delegates look ahead to a packed and exciting schedule.
We are proud to present the talented student leaders who comprise the JKSMUN Boys’ Section Executive Board for 2026/2027:

To our parents: thank you for your unwavering support of your children’s intellectual and personal growth.
To our students: remember that the resolutions you draft today are the blueprints for the world of tomorrow. Keep pushing boundaries, questioning with purpose, and leading with integrity.
Mr. Mohamed Gaffoor
MUN Director
The new school year has brought fresh energy, new ideas and, most importantly, a stronger sense of student voice through our Student Council and Prefect System. Now fully up and running, these two groups are playing an important role in making school life more engaging, organized and inclusive for everyone.
The Student Council provides students with an opportunity to share their views, suggest improvements and contribute to decisions that affect school life. Working closely with staff, council members are learning valuable skills in communication, teamwork, leadership and problem-solving. Their enthusiasm and commitment are already helping to turn student ideas into practical initiatives.
Alongside the Student Council, our prefects are taking on their responsibilities with maturity and enthusiasm. They are helping to promote positive behavior, support younger students and contribute to a welcoming school environment. As role models, prefects understand that leadership is not simply about having a title; it is about setting a positive example and being willing to serve the wider school community.
One of the most exciting aspects of the system is the opportunity for students to get involved in planning and delivering key school events. The teams have already begun preparing for events such as the much-anticipated Bake Sale, where students can combine creativity, organization and fundraising to support the school community. Another major highlight is TEDx, which will provide a fantastic platform for students to share ideas, challenge perspectives and inspire others.
Behind every successful event is careful planning, and our student leaders are gaining first-hand experience of what this involves. From creating schedules and dividing responsibilities to promoting events and ensuring everything runs smoothly on the day, students are discovering that successful leadership requires preparation, cooperation and determination.
The Student Council and Prefect System are therefore about much more than organising events. They are about giving students a genuine sense of responsibility and encouraging them to become confident, thoughtful and active members of the school community.
As the year progresses, we look forward to seeing our student leaders rise to new challenges, develop their skills and make a lasting contribution to school life. With their ideas, enthusiasm and commitment, the future of student leadership is certainly looking bright.
Mr Atiq Salakh Uddin
Head of Boys: Grades 9-12
Every year, our Grade 10 students take on one of the most meaningful challenges of the MYP: The Personal Project. It is a student-led, year-long inquiry in which each learner chooses something they care about, sets a goal, and works independently to bring it to life.
ما هو المشروع الشخصي؟
Students select a topic that matters to them and explore it through a global context. They then create a product or outcome. Past projects have ranged from a short documentary, a novel, a fashion collection, a cookbook, and a research study. Whatever the idea, the aim is the same: to turn curiosity into action.
How does it work?
Throughout the process, students investigate their topic, plan their approach, take action, and reflect on what they have learned. They record this journey in a process journal and complete a final report. Each student is supported by a supervisor who guides, questions, and encourages, but the thinking and the doing belong to the student.
Why it matters
The project develops the skills students will rely on long after school: managing time, solving problems, communicating ideas, and reflecting honestly on their own growth. It also gives them the confidence that comes from seeing something through from start to finish.
How families can help
We look forward to celebrating our students’ achievements Thank you for your support.

MYP Associate Coordinator -Boys
At Jeddah Knowledge International School (JKS), our commitment to academic excellence is embodied in the Diploma Programme, a rigorous and rewarding two-year journey for students in Grades 11 and 12. As the first IB Continuum School in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, we are proud to offer a curriculum that not only prepares students for university but also nurtures the knowledge, skills, and attitudes they need to become active, engaged global citizens.
The DP is more than a set of courses; it is a comprehensive framework designed to develop well-rounded individuals. Full IB Diploma students undertake six subjects (a mix of Standard and Higher Level) and complete three core requirements that set the programme apart:
The DP is internationally recognized as one of the highest standards in university preparatory education. Our graduates have secured places at prestigious institutions around the world, including Brown University, Columbia University, Cornell University, New York University (NYU), Princeton University, University College London, University of Toronto, and Yale University, to name a few. This success is a testament to the programme’s ability to prepare students for the academic challenges of higher education and beyond.
At JKS, all students graduate with a globally recognized American Diploma. This allows for flexible pathways: students can pursue the Full IB Diploma, take individual IB courses in subjects where they excel or have a particular interest, or opt for the Full American Diploma by following our high-quality non-IB courses. This structure ensures that every student is challenged appropriately and receives the highest quality of education.
As we look to the future, we remain dedicated to supporting our students through every step of their DP journey. Our dedicated heads and our team of experienced faculty are here to guide and inspire. We encourage parents to stay engaged through the بوابة JKS and the PlusPortals, where they can monitor progress and access important resources.
We are proud of the commitment, creativity, and growth demonstrated by our DP students. Their journey reminds us that true learning is not measured solely by exam results, but by the ability to inquire, reflect, and use knowledge with purpose.
