This month in our Unit of Inquiry, we are diving into the fascinating world of animals! Our young leaners are excitedly exploring the incredible diversity of creatures that inhabit our planet, and we are using a variety of hands-on activities, stories, and discussions to bring these animals to life.
From the friendly farm animals to the mysterious jungle dwellers and beloved household pets, each story has sparked curiosity and inspired lively conversations during circle time. Children are not only learning to identify and name a wide range of animals, but they are also discovering the unique sounds, movements, and habitats that make each species special
In addition to exploring animal characteristics, we are emphasizing the importance of empathy and responsibility by examining how we care for animals. Through thoughtful conversations and activities, we are helping children understand the basic needs of animals, such as food, water, shelter, and love. This unit is a perfect opportunity for children to develop a deeper sense of respect for living creatures and the natural world.
Through this exciting inquiry, we aim to nurture both curiosity and compassion in our young learners, laying the foundation for a lifelong appreciation of animals and the environment around them.

Migration, the movement of people from one place to another, is a significant aspect of our world, shaped by various factors like employment, safety, and family reunification. Under the transdisciplinary theme “Where we are in Time and Place,” migration helps us understand how people connect to different places and cultures.
The benefits of migration include new opportunities, better living conditions, and access to education and healthcare. It allows people to experience new cultures, fostering growth and diversity. However, migration can also have its downsides. People may face challenges such as language barriers, cultural differences, and feelings of isolation. Families can experience emotional struggles when separated, or they may find it hard to adjust to a new environment.
From the perspective of Grade 5 students, migration can be an exciting yet overwhelming idea. Many students feel that moving to a new place can offer them new adventures, but they also worry about leaving behind friends and family. The changes in their lives, such as adjusting to a new school or making new friends, can feel both exciting and challenging. For families, the impact of migration can be deeply emotional, as they navigate the complexities of starting a new life in a different place.
Have a look at what some students have to say about Migration:
Sulaiman Attieh – Migration is possible if one really needs to.
Adnan Almaimani – Migration makes people feel safe because they need to migrate for special or dangerous things, e.g. They must migrate for war.
Mashhour Aljabri – If you have work in another country, you must leave your country.
Taha Alfadl – Migration is good for one reason: It can save your life when there is war or an earthquake. You can travel to another country.
Jaser Aljarallah – You learn how to travel to a different country.
Sultan Khan – Climate- and natural disasters, like floods and earthquakes, force people to leave their countries.
In conclusion, migration is both an opportunity and a challenge. It requires careful management, cooperation between nations, and policies that balance the rights and needs of migrants with those of host communities. As the world continues to become more interconnected, fostering understanding, compassion, and equitable solutions for migrants will be crucial to creating harmonious, thriving societies.

In an increasingly fast-paced and digitally driven world, the ability to listen has become more valuable than ever. Listening is not just about hearing words; it’s about understanding, interpreting, and responding thoughtfully. This essential life skill plays a crucial role in academic success, personal relationships, and professional growth. For students in the IB MYP and DP programs, honing this skill is particularly important as it supports collaboration, critical thinking, and empathy.
The importance of listening extends far beyond the classroom. Effective listeners are better equipped to understand diverse perspectives, solve problems, and build meaningful connections with others. Whether you’re working on a group project, receiving feedback from a teacher, or engaging in a debate, active listening allows you to process information accurately and respond constructively. It also demonstrates respect and attentiveness, qualities that strengthen relationships and create an atmosphere of mutual trust.
Developing good listening habits can significantly enhance your learning and personal development. Start by minimizing distractions, maintaining eye contact, and showing genuine interest in what others have to say. Reflecting on and paraphrasing the speaker’s points can also improve understanding and show that you value their input. As students striving for excellence, remember that being a good listener not only helps you excel academically but also prepares you to navigate the complexities of life with empathy and wisdom. Listening is, indeed, a skill that empowers you to make a difference in the world.

It is a well-established fact that it takes a community to raise a child. Members within a family and the community in general all influence how a child grows, develops, and prospers. The result is a community that values all individuals and individuals who play their role in helping the community thrive.
Home-school partnerships are known for the positive impact that it has on personal, social and academic outcomes. But the partnership is more than just involvement and engagement: it is a symbiotic relationship that benefits all stakeholders. JKS emphasises the home-school partnership with parents so that we can ensure that students reach their full potential. By being involved in homework and school activities, parents help students build critical thinking skills and as well develop skills such as self-management and organization.
The future will be built on collaboration and partnerships. JKS will lead the way in preparing our students for a bright future.

Discipline in education often carries a negative connotation, associated with punishment and consequence. True discipline, on the other hand, focuses on helping students develop self-control and accountability while assisting them in achieving their academic and personal objectives. It promotes a disciplined atmosphere that fosters learning and aids in the development of critical life skills in kids. By presenting discipline as a constructive objective, we enable students to accept responsibility for their choices and behaviors. By encouraging resilience, this proactive strategy gives children the courage to face obstacles head-on.
JKS places a strong emphasis on the value of establishing clear expectations and offering assistance to pupils in order to help them meet them. Positive reinforcement is essential because it acknowledges accomplishments and promotes ongoing work. Students become more involved and motivated as they gain time and responsibility management skills. In the end, discipline is about fostering an environment of accountability and respect where each kid may succeed. Let’s work together to reframe discipline as a means of achieving achievement rather than just a collection of regulations.

Aptitude tests are an essential tool in helping students discover their strengths and potential career paths. These assessments measure your natural abilities, skills, and talents, providing insight into areas where you might excel. Whether you’re planning for college, exploring career options, or simply trying to understand your capabilities better, aptitude tests can be a helpful resource.
Unlike IQ tests, which focus on general intelligence, aptitude tests target specific skills like logical reasoning, problem-solving, language comprehension, and mathematical ability. The results can guide students in making informed decisions about their future, such as selecting college majors or exploring career fields that align with their strengths.
Taking an aptitude test is simple—most of them consist of multiple-choice questions that assess how you approach different challenges. They don’t require any prior study, as the goal is to measure your natural talents.
Ultimately, aptitude tests can serve as a useful starting point on your journey of self-discovery, helping you make well-informed decisions about your future path!

Electives can be a great way for students to explore their talents because they allow students to try new things and see what they are good at. By taking a variety of electives, students can discover hidden talents and interests that they never knew they had. For example, a student who takes a drama class may discover that they have a natural talent for acting. Or, a student who takes a coding class may find that they enjoy problem-solving and creating computer programs.
In addition to helping students discover their talents, electives can also help them develop those talents. By taking advanced classes in a particular subject, students can hone their skills and become even better at something they enjoy. For example, a student who is talented at playing the piano could take advanced music classes to improve their technique and musical knowledge.
Electives can also help students to build confidence and self-esteem. When students are able to succeed in something that they are passionate about, it can give them a sense of accomplishment and pride. This can be especially beneficial for students who struggle in other areas of their lives.
JKS offers the following electives that can help students to explore their talents:
It is important for students to choose electives that they are genuinely interested in. This will make them more likely to succeed in the class and discover a new talent. Students should also talk to their parents, teachers, and counselors for advice on which electives to take.
Overall, choosing electives can be a great way for students to explore their talents and develop their interests. By taking a variety of electives, students can discover new passions and skills that they never knew they had.

Looking ahead, libraries will integrate even more advanced technology, from virtual reality to AI-driven resources. They will also play a key role in sustainability and social justice, acting as spaces for civic engagement and community resilience and remaining crucial in providing free access to information and bridging the digital divide. Their role as inclusive, educational spaces will only grow more vital.
Visit your local library to discover how it’s adapting to meet the needs of the future!
Ms. Hadeel
Librarian
“Libraries are more than just buildings—they are bridges between the past and the future, where knowledge thrives, and communities grow.”
Libraries have always been important pillars of society, adapting to meet the demands of the period. Their goal is always the same, whether it is preserved in old scrolls or in modern media: to promote study and preserve knowledge.
“Why visit a library when everything is online?”
This frequently asked question overlooks the changing function that libraries serve in our communities. Although the way we obtain information has been revolutionized by digital technology, libraries are still evolving to become centers of learning, creativity, and connection in addition to providing books.
Libraries have existed since ancient civilizations, with the Library of Alexandria as one of the most iconic early examples. Over time, libraries grew more accessible, with public libraries opening doors to knowledge for all. In the 20th century, libraries became community hubs for education, literacy, and research.
The Present: Embracing Technology and Community, libraries Evolve:
Today, the internet transformed information access, but libraries have kept pace and continue to be places of learning, by digitizing their collections, offering e-books, and digital media, digital tools like 3D printers and equipped with computers. More than just quiet reading rooms, libraries now serve as community spaces for workshops, art exhibitions, and social programs, helping bridge the digital divide and ensure equitable access to resources.

The assembly began with a historical overview of the UN, capturing the essence of its formation and evolution over the years. Eager students listened as speakers shared stories of the organization’s mission to foster international cooperation and peace. The discussions then shifted focus to the critical rights afforded to children under the Convention, emphasizing the responsibility we all share in upholding these rights, particularly in light of the challenges facing child refugees today.
Following the informative assembly, excitement filled the air as students prepared for the FIFA EA Games Competition. Form tutors were tasked with identifying four representatives from each class to compete in this thrilling event. Selected students from Grades 7 and 8 brought their own chairs to the gym, while Grade 6 students cozily settled on the carpet in the library, ready to cheer on their peers.
Food arrangements were carefully organized to ensure a smooth flow during lunchtime. Student could share food of the country they represented. This arrangement allowed for a well-coordinated and enjoyable lunchtime experience.
As the day progressed, students looked forward to a delightful bake sale organized by the Student Council during the second break. Following the same procedures as previous events, the sale offered a variety of delicious treats, bringing together students in a spirit of community and support.
The assembly also showcased remarkable participation from Model United Nations (MUN) students who represented various countries throughout the day. Their thoughtful presentations added depth to the discussions, encouraging students to appreciate diverse perspectives and the global nature of the issues at hand.
United Nations Day at Jeddah Knowledge School proved to be more than just a celebration; it was an opportunity for our students to engage with important global issues and foster a sense of responsibility towards advocacy for children’s rights. As we reflect on the day’s events, we are proud of our students’ efforts to understand and contribute to a brighter future for all children around the world.

Preparing for the SAT can feel overwhelming, but with the right strategy, you can tackle it with confidence! Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you ace the exam.
The SAT consists of two major sections: Reading and Writing and Math. Familiarize yourself with the types of questions in each section. This will help you know what to expect and how to approach them.
Start your prep early! Set aside specific times each week dedicated to studying for the SAT. A consistent study schedule, spread out over a few months, is more effective than cramming at the last minute. Break your study sessions into manageable chunks, focusing on different sections.
Utilize official SAT practice tests and resources from the College Board. These materials closely mimic the actual test, providing a realistic experience. Practice tests are especially useful for identifying your strengths and weaknesses.
After taking a few practice tests, assess which sections you need to improve. If math is a struggle, dedicate more time to those concepts. If reading comprehension is tricky, practice with various texts to build your skills.
Familiarize yourself with test-taking strategies:
Process of Elimination: Narrow down your answer choices by eliminating obviously wrong answers.
Time Management: Practice pacing yourself. Allocate time to each question and move on if you get stuck.
Guess Wisely: There’s no penalty for wrong answers, so make educated guesses when necessary.
Don’t forget to prioritize your health during your prep. Get plenty of sleep, eat nutritious meals, and take breaks to avoid burnout. Physical activity can also help relieve stress and improve focus.
The key to success is consistent practice. Regularly take full-length practice tests under timed conditions to simulate the exam experience. Review your answers to understand your mistakes and learn from them.
By following these tips, you’ll be well on your way to achieving the SAT score you desire. Start early, stay organized, and keep pushing yourself. Good luck!
